Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano is coming out of retirement to rejoin the Baltimore Ravens, this time as a senior defensive assistant focusing on the secondary. Despite his decorated coaching history, Pagano made it clear that he has no interest in returning to a head coaching role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pagano originally began his NFL coaching journey in Baltimore, serving as the team\u2019s secondary coach in 2008 and later taking over as defensive coordinator in 2011. He went on to lead the Colts from 2012 to 2017, guiding them to multiple playoff appearances and two division titles. After a brief stint as the Chicago Bears\u2019 defensive coordinator, Pagano stepped away from the game in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His return to the Ravens came unexpectedly. What started as a phone call to head coach John Harbaugh about another coaching candidate turned into an invitation for Pagano to rejoin the staff. He accepted, excited about working hands-on with a promising defensive unit that includes Pro Bowlers Kyle Hamilton and Marlon Humphrey, as well as first-round rookie Nate Wiggins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Though he\u2019s back on the field, Pagano has no plans to seek a head coaching job again. \u201cI\u2019m not chasing that anymore,\u201d he said. \u201cI just want to be around the game, helping guys develop and doing what I love\u2014coaching.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With Pagano\u2019s experience and leadership, Baltimore hopes to strengthen a secondary that struggled at times last season, particularly against the pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
