What began as a celebration of Pride in New York City ended in chaos Sunday night when two teenage girls were shot just steps from the iconic Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. Police now believe the incident began when a 16-year-old girl attempted to shoot a teenage boy during a heated altercation involving a group of youths. Instead of hitting her intended target, the bullet struck a 17-year-old girl who was not involved in the conflict. The teen, visiting from New Jersey, was hit in the leg and required emergency surgery but is expected to recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The situation escalated quickly when a young man who was with the shooter aimed back at the crowd and continued firing back. One of the bullets fired by the young boy struck the original shooter in the head, leaving her in critical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were believed to be a total of six shots taken during this time, most of which struck nearby buildings and other structures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
