Among the hardest-hit areas was Kerr County, where dozens of lives were lost in the flooding. Officials have confirmed that at least 68 people died, including many children, and several others remain missing. A particularly tragic scene unfolded at Camp Mystic, a summer camp for girls along the Guadalupe River, where flash floods engulfed cabins and swept campers away. Twenty-seven deaths have been confirmed at the camp, and authorities continue searching for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flooding caught many off guard, with river levels rising more than 25 feet in under an hour in some locations.
