According to sources, Williams had been working toward a comeback this offseason but informed the Chargers this week through his agent, Tory Dandy, that he would not be continuing his professional football career.

Williams entered the league as the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and quickly became known for his ability to make contested catches and stretch the field. Over the course of his seven-season career—mostly with the Chargers—he totaled 330 receptions, 5,104 receiving yards, and 32 touchdowns in 106 games. His career, however, was frequently disrupted by injuries, including a torn ACL that limited his availability in recent seasons. Though he had brief stints with the Jets and Steelers last year, he never returned to full form.

With his retirement, the Chargers will now look to younger receivers like Quentin Johnston and rookie Tre Harris to step into larger roles alongside quarterback Justin Herbert.
