Authorities in Suffolk County, New York, arrested 13 individuals Sunday after disrupting an illegal fight club event that turned chaotic when gunfire rang out. The event, which took place at the Brookhaven Aquatic Center in Shirley, drew a large crowd and ended with two people injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police responded to reports of shots fired around 6 p.m. and arrived to find a disorderly scene. Investigators say a participant fired a blank gun during the fight, resulting in minor injuries to a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old. Both were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The arrests included individuals between the ages of 16 and 25. Devine Brown, 25, of Mastic Beach, was identified as the alleged shooter. He now faces multiple charges, including assault, menacing, unlawful assembly, and weapon possession. Brown is being held ahead of a scheduled court appearance. The others were issued appearance tickets for unlawful assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials say the event had been promoted on social media and drew a sizable audience before escalating. This marks the second time in recent weeks that Suffolk police have broken up an unsanctioned fight club. In a separate incident in June, a similar gathering in Melville resulted in several arrests after nearly 70 people were found participating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
