A gunman launched a surprise attack on police officers during lunchtime on Wednesday, injuring three before being killed in an exchange of gunfire, according to authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident unfolded in an industrial area of Lorain, where two officers had parked their cruisers to eat lunch. Without warning, a man armed with a rifle opened fire, striking both officers multiple times. As backup arrived, a third officer was also shot in the hand while responding to the chaotic scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The shooter, identified as a 28-year-old Lorain resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not yet determined whether he died from officers’ gunfire or a self-inflicted wound. Authorities recovered multiple firearms near the suspect and believe he acted alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials described the attack as a deliberate ambush. Acting Lorain Police Chief Michael Failing confirmed that the wounded officers are hospitalized\u2014two in serious condition, and the third recovering from a less severe injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local and state leaders expressed their support. Governor Mike DeWine commended the bravery of law enforcement and emphasized the risks officers face every day. Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley called it a “tragic day” for the city and promised support for the police department and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
