On Tuesday, storms dropped more than six inches of rain on Chattanooga\u2014marking one of the city\u2019s wettest days ever recorded. The sheer volume of water quickly overwhelmed drainage systems, turning streets into rivers and prompting numerous water rescues. Emergency crews used boats and high-water vehicles to assist drivers trapped in cars and residents stranded in flooded homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In East Ridge, a suburb of Chattanooga, a mother, father, and their child were killed shortly after midnight when a rain-soaked tree, destabilized by saturated ground, fell onto their car. Authorities confirmed all three died at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp issued a local state of emergency, urging residents to stay off the roads as conditions worsened. A flood watch remains in effect, with forecasters warning that more storms could add to the flooding risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
