Authorities are investigating a wave of armed robberies targeting armored trucks across the Philadelphia area, including a brazen daylight theft outside an Elkins Park grocery store earlier this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cheltenham Township police said two masked men ambushed a Brinks armored truck around midday Tuesday outside an H Mart on Cheltenham Avenue. One suspect carried what appeared to be an AR-15-style pistol, the other a handgun. They confronted the guards, seized several bags of cash, and escaped in a waiting vehicle. Investigators estimate the thieves took between $700,000 and $800,000. The getaway car was later found abandoned nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This latest incident is the fifth armored-car robbery reported in the region since late June. On June 21, thieves stole roughly $2 million from a Brinks truck behind a Home Depot in Philadelphia. Other robberies followed on June 26, July 2, and July 15, with both Brinks and Loomis vehicles targeted outside retail stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Federal prosecutors this week announced the arrests of three Philadelphia men in connection with the June 21 robbery. The suspects \u2014 Daishaun Hughes-Murchison, 30; Brian Wallace, 31; and Trayvine Jackson, 31 \u2014 face charges including armed robbery and firearms offenses. Prosecutors allege Jackson, a former Brinks employee, provided inside knowledge that helped carry out the crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to court filings, two masked men armed with rifles forced a guard to the ground during the June 21 heist, took his keys, and emptied the truck of cash. Surveillance footage, rental car records, and cellphone data were used to connect the suspects to the crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The FBI\u2019s Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Department are leading the investigation, working to determine whether the Elkins Park robbery and the earlier crimes are linked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
