Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been charged with felony battery involving serious bodily injury following a weekend altercation in Indianapolis, according to Marion County prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities say the incident began over a dispute about a parking spot between Sanchez (38) and a 69-year-old truck driver. During the confrontation, Sanchez was stabbed in the chest and taken to the hospital in critical condition; his status was later upgraded to stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initially, Sanchez was arrested on misdemeanor counts of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Investigators later elevated one of those charges to a level-5 felony\u2014battery causing serious bodily injury\u2014after reviewing evidence such as surveillance footage and eyewitness testimony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The felony carries a possible prison term of one to six years. Prosecutor Ryan Mears noted that although this began as a disagreement over parking, it escalated into a violent episode with \u201cincredibly significant injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 69-year-old driver, in contrast, claims he acted in self-defense, saying he used pepper spray and eventually a knife to protect himself when the situation intensified. Meanwhile, Sanchez\u2019s court hearing for the original misdemeanors has been postponed to November 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
