German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other European leaders stressed that Ukraine must retain the right to defend itself and that the borders cannot be rewritten by force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From Russia\u2019s side, the response has been muted. The Kremlin said it had not received any formal version of the revised framework and noted it would rely on official channels rather than media reports before commenting further. At the same time, President Vladimir Putin indicated earlier that the U.S. proposal could in principle<\/em> serve as a basis for a final settlement \u2014 though this remains highly conditional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite the progress claimed in Geneva, substantial hurdles remain. Ukrainians remain cautious about signing a deal that might weaken their long-term security, and European allies are concerned about being sidelined in the process.
