On Monday, a tornado swept through the northwest suburbs of Houston in Harris County, Texas, damaging over 100 homes as it cut a destructive path through residential neighborhoods. Roofs were torn off, windows shattered, garages were dislodged and trees uprooted. Authorities noted widespread debris, downed power lines, and gas-leak concerns in the hardest hit areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fortunately, no serious injuries or deaths were reported in the incident. Emergency crews from multiple agencies \u2014 including fire departments in the cities of Klein, Cypress and Spring \u2014 responded to structural damage, fallen trees, blocked streets and gas leaks. At one point, more than 20,000 customers lost power as the storm moved through the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The neighborhoods most impacted included the Memorial Northwest subdivision and others in the northwest region of the Houston metro. Drone footage and photos taken by the local constable\u2019s office captured homes missing shingles, debris-strewn yards, and severe damage to garages and trees. The National Weather Service (NWS) had issued a tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warnings for southeastern Texas ahead of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the hours following the storm, recovery and cleanup efforts were underway. Crews were cutting fallen trees, restoring power, and assessing gas lines. By the end of the night, they had restored power to roughly 75% of homes leaving only 4,000 homes in the dark. The timing was particularly challenging as the storm hit during one of the busiest travel days of the Thanksgiving holiday week, potentially complicating recovery and mobility.
