A passenger jet carrying more than 200 people crashed while attempting to land at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Thursday, according to Indian aviation officials.
The aircraft, operated by the regional carrier Air Vista, reportedly veered off the runway during its landing approach. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene. Initial reports indicate that several passengers were injured, though no fatalities have been confirmed at this time.
Videos and images shared on social media show the plane tilted on one side with visible damage to the landing gear and fuselage. The crash caused significant disruption at one of India’s busiest airports, with multiple flights delayed or diverted.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident, including the possibility of heavy rain or technical failure contributing to the crash. India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a formal inquiry.
As of now, all passengers have been evacuated, and injured individuals are being treated at nearby hospitals. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
