Israel has escalated its military operations in the region, targeting Iran-affiliated sites across both Syria and Lebanon in a series of recent airstrikes. The Israeli military confirmed that it struck infrastructure and weapons depots used by Hezbollah and other Iran-backed groups, marking a significant uptick in cross-border tensions.
The airstrikes follow months of growing hostilities fueled by Iran’s deepening involvement in the region and Hezbollah’s continued attacks on northern Israeli territory. In response, Israel says it has stepped up efforts to neutralize threats emanating from neighboring countries, particularly from areas where Iranian forces and proxies are believed to operate.
According to Syrian state media, several sites were hit near the capital, Damascus, and in the southern part of the country. Meanwhile, Israeli jets also launched strikes into southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah is known to maintain strongholds. Casualty details remain unclear, but the attacks have drawn international attention amid fears of broader regional conflict.
Israel has long warned of Iran’s military entrenchment in Syria and the flow of weapons to Hezbollah, both seen as major threats to its national security. The latest strikes reflect what officials describe as a more aggressive posture aimed at deterring future attacks and disrupting Iran’s regional influence.
