Kraft Heinz to Eliminate Artificial Dyes from U.S. Products by 2027

Kraft Heinz has announced plans to remove all artificial dyes from its U.S. products by the end of 2027, continuing its efforts to meet growing consumer demand for simpler, more transparent ingredients.

The food giant said the change will affect about 10% of its current product lineup, with reformulations already underway for items such as Lunchables, packaged macaroni and cheese, and Capri Sun. Kraft Heinz aims to replace artificial colors with naturally derived alternatives like beet juice, turmeric, and paprika.

According to company officials, the decision is part of a broader commitment to prioritize nutrition, especially in products marketed to children. Nearly half of the Kraft Heinz portfolio already contains no artificial dyes, and the company says this latest move will bring it closer to 100%.

Nutrition experts have long raised concerns about synthetic food dyes, especially their potential impact on children’s behavior. While the FDA considers them safe, some research and advocacy groups have urged manufacturers to switch to natural coloring agents.

Kraft Heinz is also evaluating its global product offerings but confirmed that the current commitment applies only to its U.S. portfolio. As more consumers push for clean labels and ingredient transparency, food companies are under increasing pressure to adapt.

This step reflects a continued shift in the processed food industry toward healthier, more natural ingredients—driven not by regulations, but by changing consumer expectations.
