Three hikers were found dead after reportedly jumping into a dangerous river above a waterfall in California’s Soda Springs area, according to park officials. The bodies were recovered Saturday in the area around Rattlesnake Falls, a popular but hazardous hiking destination known for its powerful currents.
The group was seen entering the water above the falls late Wednesday, officials said. Rescue crews launched a search after receiving witness reports, and rangers located the bodies later that week after they had to suspend the search due to water conditions. Despite clear warning signs and past incidents, the victims entered a dangerous section of this river.
Officials have not released the identities of the hikers. The National Park Service reminded visitors that swift water, cold temperatures, and slick rocks pose significant dangers this time of year. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the deaths.
