Steelers Acquire Star CB Jalen Ramsey from Dolphins in Major Offseason Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a major move ahead of the 2025 NFL season, acquiring three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins in a high-profile trade. Along with Ramsey, the Steelers will receive tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round pick. In exchange, Miami gains Minkah Fitzpatrick, the standout safety they originally drafted in 2018, and a 2027 fifth-round selection.

Ramsey, who has earned seven Pro Bowl nods and three First-Team All-Pro selections during his career, is expected to take on a leadership role in Pittsburgh’s secondary. As part of the deal, the veteran cornerback’s 2025 salary has been increased to $26.6 million. Meanwhile, tight end Jonnu Smith—coming off a productive season in Miami—has signed a one-year, $12 million extension with the Steelers to bolster their offensive depth.

The trade also marks a homecoming for Fitzpatrick, who returns to the team that initially selected him in the first round. During his tenure with the Steelers, Fitzpatrick established himself as one of the league’s premier safeties, earning multiple All-Pro honors and racking up over 20 interceptions.

Pittsburgh continues to reshape its roster this offseason with an aggressive approach, already adding veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver DK Metcalf earlier in the year. With Ramsey joining forces with Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay Jr. in the defensive backfield, the Steelers appear to be all-in on making a deep playoff push in 2025.
