Suspect Arrested After Car Crashes into California Post Office, Igniting Flames

Authorities in San Jose, California, arrested a man early Sunday morning after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into a U.S. Post Office and ignited a fire inside the building.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. at the Almaden Valley Post Office, when the driver plowed through the front entrance. The impact reportedly caused the car to burst into flames inside the lobby. Fire crews responded quickly, with about 50 firefighters working to contain the blaze, which was under control within 90 minutes. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Officials later arrested the driver at the scene. He was identified as Richard Tillman, 44, who is believed to be the brother of Pat Tillman, the former NFL player and Army Ranger who died in Afghanistan in 2004. Authorities say the crash appears to have been intentional, though a motive has not been confirmed.

Investigators are also reviewing graffiti found on the building, trying to determine whether it’s connected to the crash. Tillman is currently being held in Santa Clara County Jail on arson-related charges and is expected to appear in court later this week.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is assisting in the ongoing investigation, while officials assess the full extent of the damage to the post office.
