University of Mississippi football player Corey Adams, 18, was shot and killed Saturday night in Cordova, Tennessee, a suburb just outside Memphis. Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 9:15 p.m. and found Adams inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. Despite attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other individuals also sustained injuries during the shooting, though none were considered life-threatening, according to local law enforcement.
Adams, a recent graduate of Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, had enrolled early at Ole Miss and was preparing for his first season with the Rebels as a defensive lineman. Known for both his athletic talent and character, he was highly regarded by coaches and teammates alike. The university expressed deep sorrow in a public statement, calling his death a “devastating loss” and offering support to his grieving family and friends.
Tributes have poured in from the Ole Miss community and Adams’ hometown, where he was remembered as a dedicated teammate, loyal friend, and bright young man full of promise. His former high school team, as well as fellow college athletes, honored his memory on social media. Authorities have not yet announced any arrests, and the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
