The American Athletic Conference has officially rebranded, dropping “Athletic” from its name and moving forward as simply the American Conference. The change, announced on July 21, is part of a broader initiative to sharpen the league’s identity and differentiate it from other similarly named conferences, like the ACC. Along with a fresh logo and updated digital presence, the conference will now use “American” as its primary reference going forward.
As part of the rebrand, the league also introduced a new mascot — “Soar” the eagle — making it the first major college conference to adopt an official mascot. Designed to serve as a symbol of unity and outreach, Soar will appear at campus events, charitable initiatives, and fan engagements across the conference’s footprint. League officials say the mascot will also be featured in merchandise, promotional campaigns, and even digital content like video games. The rebrand will be officially rolled out during the conference’s media days in Charlotte, as the American Conference aims to modernize its image and deepen connections with fans and student-athletes alike.
