Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott didn’t hold back after his team’s 38–0 preseason defeat to the Chicago Bears, calling the showing unacceptable no matter which lineup was on the field. He stressed that the execution and effort fell short across all units, adding that the performance was “certainly not our standard” and that the team has plenty of work to do before the regular season.
While Buffalo rested key starters, including quarterback Josh Allen, McDermott said that wasn’t an excuse for the lopsided result. He pointed to problems on both sides of the ball, particularly the defense’s inability to contain second year quarterback Caleb Williams and Chicago’s offense. The coach said the staff will be reevaluating personnel and making adjustments in the coming weeks to ensure the team is ready when games start to count.
