Cowboys Owner Says Parsons Was Offered Record Deal for a Non-QB

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said this week that linebacker Micah Parsons had been offered a contract that would have made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Speaking in an interview with former Cowboys star Michael Irvin, Jones explained that the deal included record-setting guaranteed money for a defensive player, emphasizing the team’s commitment to keeping Parsons in Dallas long term.

Jones, however, suggested the talks hit a wall due to disagreements with Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta. According to Jones, the agent flatly rejected the proposal despite what the Cowboys believed was a historic offer. Mulugheta has since disputed that characterization, maintaining that negotiations remain ongoing.

With no extension finalized, Parsons is currently set to play the 2025 season under his fifth-year option, valued at more than $20 million. Despite the uncertainty, team officials remain hopeful he will be on the field for the Cowboys’ season opener in early September while contract discussions continue in the background.
