Flames Force Boston Flight to Abort Takeoff

A Swiss International Air Lines flight bound for Zurich was forced to slam on the brakes during its takeoff roll at Boston Logan International Airport after flames erupted from one of its engines.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening as the Airbus A330-300 began accelerating down the runway. Observers on the ground saw bursts of fire shoot from the aircraft’s right engine, prompting the pilots to immediately halt the departure.

On board were 223 passengers and 13 crew members, all of whom were brought safely back to the gate without injury. As a precaution, Logan officials temporarily paused some inbound flights while the situation was evaluated.

Airport authorities and the Federal Aviation Administration have launched investigations into the engine malfunction. Swiss International Air Lines confirmed that the Zurich-bound travelers were later accommodated on another aircraft to continue their journey.

What could have been a dangerous event ended without harm, thanks to the crew’s quick decision-making and the airport’s swift response.
