Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been charged with felony battery involving serious bodily injury following a weekend altercation in Indianapolis, according to Marion County prosecutors.
Authorities say the incident began over a dispute about a parking spot between Sanchez (38) and a 69-year-old truck driver. During the confrontation, Sanchez was stabbed in the chest and taken to the hospital in critical condition; his status was later upgraded to stable.
Initially, Sanchez was arrested on misdemeanor counts of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Investigators later elevated one of those charges to a level-5 felony—battery causing serious bodily injury—after reviewing evidence such as surveillance footage and eyewitness testimony.
The felony carries a possible prison term of one to six years. Prosecutor Ryan Mears noted that although this began as a disagreement over parking, it escalated into a violent episode with “incredibly significant injuries.”
The 69-year-old driver, in contrast, claims he acted in self-defense, saying he used pepper spray and eventually a knife to protect himself when the situation intensified. Meanwhile, Sanchez’s court hearing for the original misdemeanors has been postponed to November 4.
At the time of the incident, Sanchez was in Indianapolis to work as part of the broadcasting crew for the Colts–Raiders game. Following his arrest, he was released on $300 bond.
