Austin Reaves Explodes for Career-Best 51 to Carry Short-Handed Lakers Past Kings

In a standout performance on Sunday night, Austin Reaves erupted for a career-high 51 points, playing a central role in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 127-120 road victory over the Sacramento Kings. With key stars like LeBron James and Luka Dončić sidelined due to injuries, Reaves stepped into the spotlight and delivered an all-around performance that included 11 rebounds and nine assists, barely missing a triple-double.

Reaves shot 12-of-22 from the field, nailed 6 of his 10 three-point attempts, and displayed exceptional precision at the free-throw line by going 21-of-22. The Lakers, trailing 101-97 with under ten minutes remaining, swung momentum after Reaves hit three straight threes and sparked an 11-point run that took the lead for good.

Throughout the game, Los Angeles leaned heavily on Reaves to maintain the offense in the absence of their franchise stars. While the Kings excelled from beyond the arc, out-shooting the Lakers 54 to 24 in three-point attempts, the Lakers dominated the free-throw line 41–12, a margin that proved decisive. Coach JJ Redick praised Reaves’ leadership and made the point that the team showed it can win even when its two biggest names aren’t available.

With this breakout outing, Reaves not only marked a personal milestone but also sent a message: when the Lakers’ stars are out, he can carry the load—and carry the team.
