Giants Fire Defensive Coordinator Shane Bowen After Late-Game Collapses and 2–10 Start

The Giants have fired their defensive coordinator, Shane Bowen, a source confirmed to ESPN. The decision came just after the team’s 34-27 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions, a defeat during which the Giants squandered a double-digit lead on the road. At 2-10 on the season, they had also become the first team officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Bowen’s dismissal follows a pattern of late-game collapses by the Giants’ defense this year: the team lost five games after leading in the fourth quarter, and Sunday’s outcome marked their sixth straight loss overall. Under Bowen’s leadership, the defense ranked 30th in the league in points allowed (27.8 per game) and had multiple losses where the defense failed to close games despite sizable leads.

Following Bowen’s departure, the Giants named outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen as interim defensive coordinator. The coaching change comes not long after the team had already dismissed head coach Brian Daboll under similar circumstances, signaling a deeper shake-up of the franchise’s coaching staff amid a disappointing season.
