Tragic California Banquet Hall Shooting Leaves Four Dead and Community Shaken

A mass shooting erupted on Saturday evening at a family celebration held in a banquet hall near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton, California. The gathering described by local officials as a family event and, according to the city’s vice mayor, a child’s birthday party, turned tragic when a gunman opened fire just before 6:00 p.m.

The attack claimed the lives of four people, including three children — ages 8, 9 and 14 — as well as a 21-year-old adult. In total, 11 others were wounded and hospitalized. Authorities described the victims as a mix of children and adults.

Law enforcement, including the local sheriff’s office, is treating the shooting as a targeted incident and has not yet made any arrests. Multiple agencies are assisting with the investigation, and officials are urging anyone with information — video footage, witness accounts, or other tips — to come forward.

Community reaction was immediate and mournful: local leaders condemned the violence, calling it a heartbreaking tragedy, especially considering that children were among the dead. A vigil was organized to mourn the victims and support the wounded. The shooting has renewed calls for accountability and spotlighted broader concerns about gun violence affecting everyday gatherings.
