Lane Kiffin Leaves Ole Miss for LSU Tigers — Won’t Finish Season with Ole Miss Rebels

LSU Tigers has officially hired Lane Kiffin as its new head football coach, marking the end of his tenure at Ole Miss. He’s expected to sign a seven-year deal worth roughly $12 million annually, placing him among the highest-paid coaches in college football.

Kiffin’s departure is especially dramatic because it comes just weeks after the Rebels finished an 11–1 regular season and secured a spot in the College Football Playoff (CFP). He had asked to remain on and coach the team through the postseason, but his request was denied by Ole Miss’s athletic director.

In response, Ole Miss promoted longtime defensive coordinator Pete Golding to head coach for the CFP and beyond. Meanwhile, Kiffin — who said leaving Oxford was “very difficult” — traveled to Baton Rouge to begin the next chapter of his career, leaving behind a legion of disappointed and vocally angry Rebels fans.
