Clemson University announced on December 2, 2025, that former basketball star Elden Campbell — the school’s all-time leading scorer — has died at 57 years old. Campbell finished his collegiate career with 1,880 points, a record that still stands, along with top-tier rankings in blocks, rebounds, and total games played.
During his time at Clemson (1986–1990), Campbell was a three-time All-ACC selection and helped lead the Tigers to their only regular-season ACC championship in 1989–90. The season culminated in a run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament — the deepest NCAA postseason appearance for many Clemson fans of that era.
After college, Campbell was drafted 27th overall by Los Angeles Lakers in the 1990 NBA Draft and went on to enjoy a 15-season professional career. He played for multiple franchises — including the Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, and Detroit Pistons — and earned an NBA championship ring with the Pistons in 2004. Over 1,044 NBA games, he averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
