Man Gored by Bison in Yellowstone After Visitors Get Too Close

A 34-year-old man was injured at Yellowstone National Park after being gored by a bison over the weekend, according to park officials.

The incident happened near the park’s West Entrance in Wyoming. Officials say the man was among a group of visitors who approached the bison on foot, getting too close to the wild animal.

The bison responded aggressively, lifting the man with its horns and causing serious injuries. He was airlifted to a hospital in Idaho for treatment. No updates on his current condition have been released.

Park rangers are reminding the public to keep a safe distance from wildlife — at least 25 yards from bison, elk, and similar animals, and 100 yards from bears and wolves.

This marks the first bison-related injury of the year at Yellowstone, though such encounters are not uncommon. Bison are unpredictable and can run three times faster than humans.

Officials continue to stress that these animals, while iconic and often photographed, are wild and should be treated with caution and respect.
