Shaquill Griffin Returns to Seahawks on One-Year Deal

Veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin is reuniting with the Seattle Seahawks, the team that originally drafted him in 2017. The 29-year-old defensive back has agreed to a one-year contract reportedly worth $3 million, with the potential to earn up to $1 million more through performance incentives. The move strengthens Seattle’s secondary with a familiar face who brings both experience and leadership.

Griffin played his first four seasons in Seattle, where he quickly emerged as a reliable starter and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2019. After leaving in free agency, he went on to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, and most recently the Carolina Panthers. Over the course of his eight-year NFL career, he has appeared in more than 100 games, notching nine interceptions and over 70 passes defended.

His return to Seattle comes at a time when the Seahawks are building around a young, dynamic defense. Griffin is expected to compete for the third cornerback role behind standout talents Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen. He’ll likely face competition from Josh Jobe and others during training camp, but his prior knowledge of the organization and veteran presence could give him an edge. With a new coaching staff and a revamped defensive strategy, the Seahawks are hoping Griffin’s second stint in Seattle helps anchor a unit poised for improvement.
