Browns CB Martin Emerson Jr. Out for Season with Torn Achilles

Cleveland Browns cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. will miss the entire 2025 NFL season after suffering a torn Achilles during training camp. The injury happened during a 7-on-7 drill on Monday as Emerson was covering wide receiver Diontae Johnson. The 24-year-old immediately went down and was carted off the field without putting weight on his left leg. An MRI later confirmed a full Achilles tear, and head coach Kevin Stefanski announced the team expects Emerson to undergo surgery and begin a long recovery process.

Emerson, a third-round pick in 2022, was entering the final year of his rookie deal and had become a key part of the Browns’ secondary. He started 15 of 17 games last season, recording 80 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Over his three-year career, he has totaled 202 tackles and four interceptions in 50 games. With Emerson sidelined, Cleveland is expected to shift Greg Newsome II into a full-time outside role, while Tony Brown II or Chigozie Anusiem may fill the nickel spot. Stefanski called the injury “a tough loss” but expressed confidence in Emerson’s character and eventual return.
