Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love underwent surgery on his left thumb this week to repair a ligament injury suffered during the team’s preseason opener against the New York Jets. The injury, to his non-throwing hand, was initially managed with tape and rest, but team doctors and Love agreed that surgery would give him the best chance to be fully healthy for the start of the regular season. The procedure was performed in Los Angeles earlier this week.
Love was on the sidelines during Thursday’s joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts, sporting a heavily wrapped hand but not taking part in drills. Head coach Matt LaFleur said the surgery was successful and that Love should resume limited practice next week. Barring any setbacks, the 25-year-old is expected to be under center for Green Bay’s season opener against the Detroit Lions on September 7.
