Buccaneers Waive Rookie Safety Shilo Sanders After Preseason Ejection

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have parted ways with rookie safety Shilo Sanders after his ejection from a preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. Sanders was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after throwing a punch at tight end Zach Davidson, an incident that effectively ended his chances of making the team’s 53-man roster.

Head coach Todd Bowles criticized the act as “unacceptable,” stressing that maintaining composure is critical at the professional level. Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, entered camp as a long shot to crack Tampa Bay’s deep safety unit, which already features Antoine Winfield Jr., Christian Izien, and several promising backups. Despite the release, reports suggest the Buccaneers respected Sanders’ response afterward and could consider bringing him back on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
