Florida State Fined $50,000 by ACC After Fans Stormed Field Following Upset Over Alabama

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced on Monday that Florida State University has been fined $50,000 for violating the league’s newly implemented event security policy, which prohibits fans from entering the field of play after games. The infraction occurred when fans rushed the field following FSU’s surprising 31–17 victory over No. 8 Alabama on August 30—marking the first penalty under the new rule.

The policy, enacted this season, applies to both football and basketball and is aimed at protecting the well-being of student-athletes, coaches, officials, and fans. It outlines escalating fines for repeated violations—$50,000 for a first offense, $100,000 for a second, and $200,000 for each subsequent offense. The funds will be directed to the Weaver‑James‑Corrigan‑Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Fund, which supports ACC student-athletes in their graduate education pursuits.
