At the Lakers’ media day, LeBron James struck a confident tone about the season ahead. Even though he’s entering an expiring-contract year, the 40-year-old superstar said he isn’t worried about his deal. Instead, he’s energized by the team’s refreshed roster, continuity in coaching, and the experience of returning core players.
LeBron exercised his $52.6 million player option for this season, making it official he’ll be back. He emphasized that his focus isn’t on the contract but on competing—tanking his mindset on accountability, detail, and championship-level consistency.
Physically, James acknowledged lingering issues — especially from the knee sprain he sustained late last season — and said his goal is to get as close to 100% as possible. Still, he plans to be fully engaged even if his on-court role is limited early on.
While he hasn’t set a timeline for the end of his career, LeBron said he’ll pay attention to whether the daily grind continues to excite him—and once he stops loving the process, that may be his signal to step away.
