During Sunday’s game, the New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a severe lower-leg injury when his right ankle twisted awkwardly as he attempted to catch a pass. The injury occurred midway through the second quarter of the Giants’ 38-20 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles, when his foot became trapped, causing the ankle to bend sharply.
Immediately after the injury, medical staff placed Skattebo’s leg in an air cast and he was carted off the field for further evaluation. The team later confirmed he would undergo surgery Sunday night. His teammates were visibly shaken, and head coach Brian Daboll said he “felt absolutely terrible” for Skattebo and acknowledged how the entire team was affected.
At the time of his exit, Skattebo had already made an impact on the game, including an 18-yard touchdown reception, extending his run of games with a score. The young running back, a fourth-round pick out of Arizona State University, had quickly become a key offensive contributor for the Giants this season, and the loss raises serious concern about his availability moving forward.
With Skattebo sidelined, the Giants will turn to backup ball-carriers such as Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary to shoulder the rushing load as the team navigates the remainder of the season without one of its breakout rookies.
