The New York Giants are expected to start veteran quarterback Jameis Winston on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, sources told ESPN. Jaxson Dart, the rookie starter, remains in the concussion protocol and appears unlikely to play.
Winston will leap ahead of fellow veteran Russell Wilson on the depth chart under interim head coach Mike Kafka, marking Kafka’s first major personnel move after the firing of Brian Daboll. Wilson started the season but had been replaced by Dart before his concussion.
Winston has not played this season and has spent time as the third-stringer following his offseason signing of a two-year, $8 million deal. The Giants intend for him to serve as backup next season behind Dart.
